Course Text:

Payne, V.G. and Isaacs, L.D. (1999). Human Motor Development: A Lifespan Approach (5th ed.). Mayfield Publishing Company, Mountain View California.

Course Evaluation:

QUIZZES: Five quizzes will be administered on those days indicated on the course outline. Quizzes will cover material selected form the following reading assignments.

Growth Curves

(5 questions: 1 pt each)

Early stimulation

(5 questions: 1 pt each)

DATA ACQUISITION: An anthropometry lab will be required. You will collect a series of anthropometric measures and calculate some relative growth values. The lab will be worth 5 pts.

 

EXAMINATIONS: Three examinations will be given on those days indicated by the course outline. Note that the final examination is comprehensive. Each question is worth 1 point. Exams 1 and 2 will consist of 60 questions. Exam 3 will be comprised of 80 questions.

The maximum points for the course is 200. A final grade will be awarded according to the scale below.

230-207 = A

173-170 = C-

206-198 = B+

169-165 = D+

197-191 = B

164-160 = D

190-185 = B-

159-155 = D-

184-179 = C+

154 & Below = F

178-174 = C

 

NOTE:

1. If the instructor believes the reading assignments are not being completed, he reserves the right to administer a 'pop' quiz, without notice, on the day the assignment is due. Each new quiz will be worth 5 pts and will cover only the material in the reading assignment. A new grade scale will be distributed at the time of the quiz.

2. Reading assignments are to be completed for the class period after the date indicated on the course outline.

3. Make-up exams will be given only when special (very special) circumstances prevent attendance at the scheduled exam time. Participation in athletic events, other exam etc. do not constitute acceptable excuses. Attendance at the exam is your number 1 priority.

4. You will be allowed to make up one quiz with the permission of the instructor. Permission will only be granted if you have an acceptable excuse for missing the quiz in the first place. See 3 above for non-acceptable excuses. The quiz make-up will be administered on Thursday May 7th at 9.15am in ENS 306. No other make-up times will be provided.

5. You will need eight (8) par system answer sheets (#20788) for the exams.

6. Class begins three minutes after the scheduled time. If you cannot make it by that time, DO NOT come into the class.
