Midterm Review Study Guide
History 101 - Professor Maiershofer

General Tips and Advice:

Review your lecture notes and any notes you took on the reading. You should see certain themes that arise over and over. Some of these I have made explicit in the course. As you look at the list of themes below, you should be thinking "How does each theme play out in the time period we have been studying?" and "How does this theme play out in the different regions that we have been studying?" From there, you should be able to give two or three specific examples of each theme.

The exam will consist of two sections - a matching section and an essay section. There will be a list of eight terms and another list of twelve definitions. You will need to match each term with its correct definition. To study for this section, you should be able to identify (for each of the terms below) what the term is, the date or dates associated with it, and the geographic area associated with the term. There will also be two essay questions, and you will choose one question to answer. A good essay will not merely repeat facts and dates, but will also provide some explanation and historical analysis of those facts. To study for this section, you should look at each of the themes below and be able to discuss it intelligently, using facts as evidence to support your answer. A good essay will explain the facts, not just list them.
