Red arrived at Charra, India airbase on April 11, 1944 with the 444th Bombardment Group (on the 444th website scroll down
to "FU-KEMAL" and "FU-KEMAL-TU"). They were the first group to fly the B-29s, forming the elite 58th
Bombardment Wing of the 20th Air Force. FU-KEMAL (above right)was the 29th B-29 issued. The painted ships represent
those sucken on raids over Taiwan; the camels - 30 missions over the Himalayas; the bombs -10 raids on
Japan. FU-KEMAL was retired in late 1944; the crew assigned to the new, "FU-KEMAL-TU," of the 676th Squadron. On the
picture of that plane (bottom right) you can see painted more Hump and bombing missions.
