Laser Tattoo Removal
Tattoos seem like the best things in the world when you get them…and down the line become the worst idea you've ever had. If that's the case, it's nice to know you have the chance to change what may have been a mistake. The real benefit is that you can stop covering up various body parts because you're ashamed or embarrassed about your tattoo. If you're healthy and have decided that your tattoo is no longer a badge of honor or appropriate decoration, you may be a good candidate for tattoo removal. Another good candidate for tattoo removal is someone with a "traumatic" tattoo. This is a result of dirt and debris being ground into a wound. When the wound heals, the surface of the skin appears to always be dirty. Removing a tattoo is not an overnight proposition. If you're committed to removing one, you will need to be patient. On average, it can take anywhere from 6 - 10 sessions to remove a tattoo. (The size, numbers of colors and who originally did it are factors in the number of sessions). And a good amount of time must be allowed between each treatment: from 4 - 8 weeks. You also have to be realistic as well as patient. The tattoo won't completely vanish. Most people will be left with some reminder of the tattoo, whether it's in the form of mild scar or a slight change in the normal skin color in the area. The purpose of the consultation is to get information and to ask questions. The more you know about this procedure, the better prepared you'll be to make the decision whether it's right for you. During the consultation, the Dr. Nowak will consider a number of factors when deciding how extensive your tattoo removal treatments will be. Factors such as the following:
During your consultation Dr. Nowak will explain to you how the laser works and how it will work to remove your tattoo. You should also be made aware of what the laser removal will probably feel like. It is not a pain-free experience, so you should be prepared. Even though the area will be numbed, there will be sensation. Generally, an anesthetic cream is applied an hour or two before treatment to numb the area. Some doctors may inject an anesthetic directly into the skin for more numbing. After the procedure, Dr. Nowak will advise you to keep the area clean. The healing area will most likely itch for the first week. Pinpoint bleeding is normal after tattoo removal, so don't be alarmed. Avoid irritating the skin at all times. This includes sun exposure, picking at the skin, etc. If you're in the sun, make sure you apply an SPF of at least 15. Or better yet, keep the area covered, or stay out of the sun. After each session, you will see the tattoo fade and gradually lessen. In the best-case scenario, your tattoo will be completely removed. Even if it's not, it will most likely be lessened. Most candidates are completely satisfied with the procedure and are happy they made the decision to remove their tattoo. It may have been in an awkward place, or just was a symbol that no longer carried any meaning for you. Regardless of the nature of your tattoo, it's nice to know you have the option to remove it. And for some people, turning back time and erasing their mistake will make them feel much better about themselves. The good news is that this procedure is also permanent. You will never have to worry about your tattoo growing back. So
