STARS OF THE SHOW -- Top performers in the Cub Scout show at St. Joseph's Church, Michael Kokinda as Minnie the Mermaid hears her lover, Bob Stanton, sing "Minnie the Mermaid." The skit was a part of the Easter Parade program presented by the Cubs.
      (Evening Herald, Frackville Edition, July 19, 1975)   Were you at the Pack Meeting on March 29, 1956, of Cub Pack 92 of St. Joseph's Church? A delightful Easter Parade was presented with a hilarious fashion show -- all Cub Scouts were dressed in comic finery.
      The young entertainers in the picture are Michael Kokinda, Engineering graduate of Pennsylvania State University and Dr. Robert J. Stanton, on the faculty of Rice University, Houston, Texas.
      Cubmaster Robert Berg and Den Mothers, Mrs. Earl Fennelly, Mrs. Lorraine Stanton, Mrs. John Schweich and Mrs. Fred Alexander joined in the fashion show modeling outlandish Easter finery.
      Did you know that the State Police Officers from town in 1955 were: Cpl. James McGrew, Sgt. Frank B. Evans and Pfc. Stanley Petzak?
      The following stores are no longer located in Frackville. Did you ever imagine the large turn over of businesses that takes place in a few years?
      Can you remember back to 1955 when these stores were in business in town?       Did you know Mr. Earl Bowe, owner of Bowe's Garage in the 1950's was the manager of the Natalie Store in town for 17 years?
      Did you know that Harry Lehrman moved from Steelton to Frackville in 1932 and conducted a Men's Store here for 43 years?
      Did you know that Stanley Matlowski of 59 North Railroad Avenue was born in Poland and has operated a grocery business here for the past 30 years?
      Did you know that the Bohard Building on the corner of Frack and Lehigh Avenue was the Union House in the early 1900's?
      Did you know the Altamont Fire Company will celebrate it's 45th year of service to our community in September?
      Did you know the Saldukas Jewelry Store has been in business in town for the past 49 years?
      Did you know that John Crane started his insurance business in November 1950 and had his offices in the former Sanner Building?
      Did you know that D. Frank Hoppes retired September 15, 1957 after almost 39 years of banking service?
      Did you know that Charles (Daw) Miller was the speaker at the official dedication of Little League Field on June 6, 1955? Chief Burgess Miller tossed out the first ball to Syl Runkle, president of the Little League Association.
      Did you know the first issue of the "Frackville News," a weekly newspaper, was on March 17, 1955, and it ran for two and one half years? "The Frackville News," a new tabloid form with Fred G. Lunt as editor, was first published September 12, 1957.
      Did you know that Blair Egge was dog law enforcement officer for the Commonwealth, in Schuylkill and Dauphin Counties from 1943 until 1955?
President Eisenhower at Gettysburg College Convocation
President Eisenhower is given a round of applause when he left the convocation platform and strides with General Willard S. Paul, president of the college, to his car. The Chief Executive is visibly pleased with the warm reception he received here.
      An audience of 4,000 attended the Gettysburg College Convocation on April 6, 1959. Visitors from Frackville were Jean Connelly, Ruth Williams, Blanche Williams, and Mary Connelly, on the left of the picture. A highlight of this convocation was the presentation of the "Service to the Nation" award to President Eisenhower.
