(Evening Herald, Frackville Edition, March 14, 1975)  The population of Frackville in 1889 was approximately 2000 people. Frackville was growing rapidly and some lovely houses were already built here.
The pictures on the bottom from left are: (1) The Town Clock Building. (2) Residence of C.C. Wagner, at the corner of Arch and Balliet Streets, now occupied by Dr. Thomas and family. (3) Residence of Dr. C.A. Blieler, located at 114 North Balliet Street. (4) Depot House - J. Pauly, proprietor. This building is located to the rear of the Bohard building. (5) Residence and Drug Store of Dr. David Taggart at 10 North Lehigh Avenue. Eileen's Tavern was located here. This store had the first telephone that was installed in our town. (6) Union House, Thomas Burke, proprietor, now the bohard Building at Lehigh and Frack Streets. The Old Culvert on the way to Maizeville can be seen in the center of the picture.
The Mahanoy Plane Engine House can be seen at the right of the picture. Many of the men of town worked here.
There were four churches in town at that time. The Methodist, Luthern, Episcopal and Evangelical faiths were already organized.
This picture was reproduced from the original sketch which is still hanging in the Senior Citizens' Rooms in the Town Clock Building.
The Frackville Buffaloes
The Frackville Buffaloes won 67 straight football games before losing, 3-0, to the queen City AA from Allentown during a seven-year span.
They held a reunion on November 9, 1963, at the Ace Banquet Hall. Rex Roberts acted as master of ceremonies.
The buffaloes, who boasted some of the finest talent in the coal region during their existence, were beaten only three times -- by the Queen City AA, Glover's Hill, and Lykens.
