Using Microsoft Office 2000/2002

Microsoft certification preparation using Excel - CSIS 198 (#4251)
Students are encouraged to enroll in CSIS 198 for tutoring and additional computer time, especially if a PC is not available at home. Open Lab times will be posted outside the CSIS Labs.

Accessing the Online Site
Students will be using Prentice Hall Train IT/Assess IT Software:
  • You must first download and print the student guide: Student Guide
  • You must log on to http://trainassess.phgenit.com

    Prescriptive Learning
You will first begin by assessing what you do know and then you will be assigned projects and assignments based on the skills you need and are weak in. This program is considered to be prescriptive learning. Essentially this means that every student will be on a special program designed for just them.

    Text Book
MOUS Essentials Excel 2000 + TrainIT/AssessIT, Authors: Marianne Fox and Lawrence C. Metzelaar, Publisher: Prentice Hall. ISBN: 0-13-098505-8

You will be required to purchase a copy of MOUS Essentials Excel 2000. However, you must purchase the textbook from the bookstore with the correct ISBN# so that it will allow you access to the TrainIT/AssessIT Software.

    MOUS Certification
This program is designed to prepare students who are interested in becoming certified as a Microsoft Office User Specialist. Those who complete CSIS 175B should be able to pass the MOUS Excel Core Exam. Those who complete both CSIS 175B and CSIS 275B should be able to pass the MOUS Excel Expert Exam.

    MOUS Testing
This test costs between $48 - $100+ per test. However, California Business Education Association is offering to all students of members of CBEA the tests for a price you won't find anywhere else. The current costs for these tests are $35 each or $135 for 5 tests. Visit www.cbeasdi.org and download a MOUS Test Application and forward it on as instructed. For more information you can also email Mrs. Edna Prigmore, eprigmore@palomar.edu or call her at 760.744.1150 Ext. 5053.

Many companies are now requiring this certification to verify quality perspective employees for employment. This would also make a great kudo on any resume. I strongly encourage all my students to become MOUS certified in Excel and as many of the following as you can be tested for: Word (Core & Expert), PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
