Support for Teaching Assistants

Online Guidebooks for Teaching Assistants

Here are several online guidebooks that CTL recommends as resources for new and experienced Teaching Assistants at SDSU.

  • A Guide for Graduate Instructors, Teaching Assistants, and New Faculty  (University of Missouri)
  • Teaching Tips for TAs (UC Santa Barbara)
  • International Teaching Assistant Handbook: An Introduction to University and College Teaching in the United States
  • Resources in Your Department

Start with your Course Coordinator. Usually this is the instructor of record (name listed on the course schedule) or a Lab Coordinator.

You can also go to your Graduate Adviser in your Department – they usually have considerable experience with your department’s courses, faculty, and answering TAs’ questions.

Your Department Chair is also a great resource with lots of experience with your department’s courses, faculty, and answering faculty, instructors, and TAs’ questions.
