Reference Services Featured SDSU Library links: Area of interest: Latin American women artists |
![]() |
My interest in the art of Latin America began shortly after receiving a Master in Library and Information Science in 1988 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As a newly minted reference librarian I became keenly aware of the lack of ready access to the written record of Latin American women's contributions to the history of art and set out to fill the need by by publishing the first reference book on the subject in 1996. My bibliography, Latin American Women Artists, Kahlo and Look Who Else (Greenwood, 1996), contains annotated references to close to 1,500 entries from books, periodicals, exhibition catalogues, dissertations, theses, and videorecordings on over 1,500 artists. I am updating this information via an online bibliographic archive, a project that of necessity will always be a work in progress given the field's dynamic growth and the critical attention it continues to receive. |
