Mock Interviews

If you would like to practice your communications skills during a mock interview, the conference is the place to do it! 

The details:

  • It will be first come, first serve based on registration
  • Interviews will take place on Friday and Saturday
  • Each time slot is 20 minutes
  • Interviewers have experience in conducting interviews and will give you feedback and tips on your skills
  • You can bring a resume if you’d like, it will be optional
     
    The Questions
    • Here is a list of questions that could be asked
    • Take a moment and look them over
    • Have an idea of what you will say
    • Practice your answers
    • Some questions may be geared for pre-meds, but they can apply to any field
       
  1. Why do you want to be a doctor?
  2. What do you do in your spare time? What (movie, book, play) did you last (attend, read)?
  3. What are your specific goals in medicine?
  4. What stimulated your interest in medicine?
  5. What do you think about the socialization of medicine?
  6. What are your opinions on abortion? Physician assisted suicide? Cloning for body parts?
  7. What schools have you applied to?
  8. If you were in a rotation with a preceptor who only gave shots to his/her patients, and refused to teach you anything, what would you do? Keep in mind that if you notified the school, this physician could get in big trouble.
  9. What do you intend to gain from a medical education?
  10. What do you think about euthanasia?
  11. Why do you think so many people want to be doctors?
  12. How do you plan to finance your medical education?
  13. Do you tell your patient he has eight months to live, etc.?
  14. Pretend you are me, and I am you: What would you look for in an applicant?
  15. There are 1,000 applicants as qualified as you. Why should we pick you?
  16. Why do doctors have one of the highest suicide niles among professionals?
  17. What steps have you taken to acquaint yourself with what a physician does?
  18. How would your plans differ if we were now under socialized medicine?
  19. How much money do you expect to make as a doctor?
  20. What do you think the most pressing issue in medicine is today?
  21. What will you do if you don't get into medical school?
  22. Should a doctor be required to serve two years in public service?
  23. Should medical professionals be required to work with HN patients?
  24. What are your positive qualities, and what are your negative qualities?
  25. What is your relationship with your family?
  26. How do you feel that you fit into the medical profession as a person? Describe your self-image as a doctor.
  27. How do you think your role as a physician will fit in with your role as a member of the community?

  29. What value can you be to our school?
  30. What are the best and worst things that have ever happened to you?
  31. What will you be doing in medicine 10-15 years from now?
  32. Is medicine a rewarding experience? Why?
  33. Would you practice in a rural or inner city area? What experience do you have in such areas?
  34. Suppose you go to an isolated African village whose only medical care is a naiive healer and the villagers are suffering from all sorts of diseases. You've been trained in their language. What would you do?
  35. If there were an accident on the freeway, would you stop and help the victims, knowing about present malpractice claims?
  36. What would you do to solve the current maldistribution of doctors in the U.S.?
  37. What aspects of your life's experiences do you think make you a good candidate for health professional school?
