Dinner keynote: Dr. Gary Vilke

Dr. Gary Vilke

Dr. Gary Vilke completed his General Surgery Internship and Emergency Medicine Residency at UCSD Medical Center, where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Vilke joined the faculty in July 1996 and currently serves as Director of Custody Services and the Director of Clinical Research for the emergency department. He is also serving as Chief of Staff for the UCSD Medical Center. Dr. Vilke has been very active in EMS, having previously served as the Medical Director of the County of San Diego Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from 2002-2006. He was also the former UCSD Base Hospital Medical Director, Mercy Air San Diego Medical Director, and Medical Director for the Southwestern and Palomar Paramedic Colleges. Dr. Vilke was the UCSD EMS Fellowship's first Director and now is the UCSD DEM Clinical Research Scholar Fellowship Director. Dr. Vilke also works as one of the physicians for the San Diego County Metropolitan Medical Strike Team (MMST) and was the team's founding Medical Director that is prepared for deployment if there is an act of terrorism implementing a chemical or radiological agent. Dr. Vilke is interested and active in research, particularly involving prehospital care and restraint position physiology.

Dr. Clinton Adams

Lunch keynote: Dr. Clinton Adams

Clinton Adams, DO, MPA, FACHE, has been Dean of Western University of Health Sciences' College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) since January 2005. He joined COMP following a distinguished career in the United States Navy, where he attained the rank of Rear Admiral and served in a variety of capacities, notably as Command Surgeon for United States Fleet Forces Command, Command Surgeon for Allied Command for Transformation (NATO), and Commander of the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Adams has overseen the implementation of a new curriculum and the growth of research funding and publications which has resulted in recognition as having a superior academic profile for the Institution as reflected in national rankings in licensure examinations and placement of graduates in postdoctoral residency programs. Dr. Adams is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and board certified in Anesthesiology. He completed an anesthesia residency at George Washington University, Family Medicine at the Charleston Naval Hospital, and holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of Oklahoma. He is a past president of the Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, a member of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and serves on the executive board of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.
