Leading the Way to Peace traces the personal stories of peacemaking, courage and hope of four women: Christiana Thorpe from Sierra Leone, Zarina Salamat from Pakistan, Shreen Abdul Saroor from Sri Lanka and Luz Mendez from Guatemala.
These four seemingly ordinary women (students, mothers, daughters, teachers, artists, business women) of different ages, different religions and different cultural backgrounds, rise up and take daring, non-violent stands and action in times of war and post-conflict resolution. In one-way or another, they are all working toward the same goals: peaceful communities, gender equality and human dignity... so that we all benefit.
While women are active in peacemaking, their roles are seldom known or acknowledged. In this documentary, history is recorded from the perspective of ordinary women in conflict-torn regions of the world, who are doing extraordinary work on the front lines of peace building, mitigating conflict, resolving conflict and advocating for human rights.
There will also be a special sneak preview of the soon-to-be-released documentary Reversing the Ripples of War, featuring women (from Zimbabwe, Uganda, Cambodia and the Philippines) of the 2005 Institute for Peace & Justice (IPJ) Women PeaceMakers Program.
For additional information, please contact Kathy Sangha, Sun & Moon Vision Productions, at (760) 735-8300 or production@sunandmoonvision.org.
