to our M.A. program must utilize the recommendation form and complete the waiver of access.
What kind of financial support does your program offer?
We do not offer fellowship support to students entering our program in the Spring semester. There are fellowships available to incoming graduate students for
the 2006-2007 academic year. The amount of fellowships and the number offered varies each year and is a function of how the endowment performs.
All applicants who submit
application materials prior to April 1, 2006, will be considered for the fellowships. Outstanding applicants will be asked to apply for Teaching Assistantships.
Can I take graduate courses even if I haven't yet been accepted to the Graduate Program?
If there is space available in a graduate course (500 level and above) or a graduate seminar (600 level), you may enroll in the class through the Open University program. This program is handled through the College of Extended Studies.
You have to pick up an Open Studies admissions form a week prior to the class. Then have the instructor approve the Open admissions registration by signing the form when you attend the first class.
You can take these classes through Open University and they will apply to your M.A. as long as you apply and are accepted and then enroll in the M.A. program in the next consecutive semester.
Frequently Asked Questions (and answers!) About the Official Program
When should I prepare my Official Program?
You must be a classified student in order to file your official program. Your official program should be prepared and filed with Graduate Division before you begin your third semester of study in the Graduate program.
What courses should I include on my Official Program?
Consult the Graduate Bulletin which is dated for the academic year that you enrolled in the program (i.e., if you started in Fall, 2001, you must refer to the Graduate Bulletin dated 2001-2002. If you enrolled in Fall, 2002, consult the Bulletin
dated 2002-2003.) The appropriate bulletin will have a section devoted to M.A. requirements in the Political Science department. Your courses must comply with the requirements of your specialization (if any).
How do I complete an official program when I don't know what the course schedule will be for the next two semesters?
Your official program should include the 30 units of credit that will satisfy the M.A. requirements in Political Science. If the courses that you require are not offered in the subsequent two semesters, you can file a Change of Program form.
