In his lecture, Dr. Wael al-Delaimy gave a comprehensive account of the human rights situation in Iraq over the last three decades. He discussed the abuses that took place under the Saddam regime especially during the Iran-Iraq war, explained the many forms of human suffering inflicted by the first gulf war and the sanctions regime that followed, and pointed to some of the devastating humanitarian effects of the 2003 U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. The lecture was attended by an audience of students, faculty, and staff from UCSD and SDSU, as well as by some members of the larger San Diego community.
