Trapani , Iza. Froggie Went-a-Courtin'. Watertown , MA : Charlesbridge, 2002. ISBN 1-58089-029-6. $6.95.

Exuberantly, with real flash (gold on the cover), Trapani retells and illustrates the famous song of Froggie's courtin' failures-until just the right gal, another frog for a change, captures him completely. The story is humorous if somewhat crushing for Froggie till near the end. The joyous pastels, the decorative art, and the expressive Froggie, Turtle, Birdie, Chipmunk, and Mousie all combine in a wedding scene of great appeal. Music for the song is provided, too.

A. Allison, June 2006
