Said, Salah Ahmed. The Lion's Share/Qayb Libaax: A Somali Folktale. St. Paul , MN: Somali Bilingual Book Project, Minnesota Humanities Commission, 2006. $15.95. ISBN 1-931016-12-7.

A work of art, this Somali version of "The Lion's Share" is outstanding-vigorous in language, in art, and in graphic design. And this book is bi-lingual: English on one side, Somali on the other. Far from a fairy tale with a happy ending, the fable is a hard-nosed life lesson. In this tale familiar from Aesop, predators band together and hunt down a camel, but when it comes time to share the kill, the portions are decided by sheer power alone. Only the lion eats.

A. Allison, October 2006
