Rosen, Michael. Balls! Illus. John Margeson. Plain City , OH : Darby Creek, 2006. ISBN 1-58196-030-1. $18.95.

Everything you wanted to know about the very varied kinds of balls used in sports: their history, the science of how they work, how sports figures learn to use them advantageously, trivia, and games to play at home. Tremendously useful, this informative book is written in a lively manner and very well laid out with inserts, boxes, bottom page commentaries, and humorous cartoon characters. It's the kind of book that certain kids will treasure and an excellent choice for free reading time on classroom bookshelves.

A. Allison, March 2006
