Rathmell, Donna and Doreen. Octavia and Her Purple Ink Cloud. Illus. Connie McLennan. Mt. Pleasant, SC: Sylvan Dell, 2006. ISBN0-9764943-5-3. $15.95.

With a title like Octavia and Her Purple Ink Cloud, who could resist this light-hearted melodrama? Octavia, the young octopus, can't get her ink the right color. As she learns how to do it, she squirts ink in all colors but purple. McLennan's extraordinary underwater scenes provide delight as well as color knowledge. Fortunately, practice makes purple. The story ends well. Children will much enjoy the slightly scary tale and everyone will appreciate the artwork.

Includes projects, information, and a little white space for coloring.
