Amery, Heather. Little Red Riding Hood. Illus. Stephen Cartwright. London: Usborne Publishing Ltd, 2003. $4.95. ISBN 0 7945 0607 0. 15 pp.

This is the traditional story of Little Red Riding Hood set up so the beginner reader has short sentences on the top of each page and the person helping them read has longer text on the bottom so that they can take turns reading. The illustrations are excellent since they also tell the story, but without any words. Some pages have a sequence of pictures so the reader can visually see the story progress. The pictures are colorful and the wolf’s appearance is very scary since he has the yellow eyes and triangle shaped face that means danger.

I like that this traditional story is put in a format a first time reader can enjoy; it reintroduces an old story to a new generation.
