Stojic, Manya. Wet Pebbles Under Our Feet. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2002.   $15.95. ISBN 0-375-81519-8. 32 pp.

Wet Pebbles Under Our Feet begins with a little girl going to visit the island where her mother grew up as a fisherman's daughter.   On the journey the little girl is told stories about the times her mother and her uncles were growing up on a small island with a pebbly beach.   After hearing her uncles talk about the pebbly beach with its "wet and cool and smooth" pebbles, the little girl becomes excited to also be able to walk along the wet pebbles.   Soon they all reach the island, the little girl's grandparents welcome her home.   And on the way back to their home, the little girl takes off her shoes and walks along the wet pebbly beach talking about making up her own stories to share with her daughter one day.

Manya Stojic writes an endearing story of growing up and having your own tales to tale.

The best part of this book is the illustrations. They beautifully depicted the seascape and all sights of the seashore.
