Price, Robin. I Am Spartapuss. Mogzilla: www.mogzilla.co.uk . Paperback edition 2005. ISBN 0954657608. $10.95. 192 pp.

Roman history with feline characters, e.g. Spartapuss, Catligula, and Clawdius, Price's enjoyable romp is acatually accaturate. His puns are nowhere as heavy as the last two of mine, so I'll desist, but the puns are part of the book's fun. Try "Fleagypt" and "Mewpiter." Spartapuss manages Spatopia, a Roman bath, until he runs foul of Catligula and is sent to the Games. How will he survive? By quick wits, some key misunderstandings, and a goodly shot of heroism. Rome's social classes, scenery, and crazy imperials, and cats'/people's daily life make up the setting-readers do pick up a lot of information while taking in a very lively story.

Two sequels: Catligula (2005) and Die Clawdius (2006).

A. Allison, October 2006
