Peters, Lisa. Our Family Tree: An Evolution Story. Illus. Lauren Stringer.
San Diego: Harcourt, 2003. $17. ISBN 0-15-201772-0.

This is a success in what it sets out to do—explain evolution to very young children. It does so in beautifully colored paintings and simple language using the idea of family to convey the basics. As befits this age group's appropriate reading, the illustrations are straightforward depictions of animals and the layout is uncomplicated. There's a glossary at the back which explains concepts in more complex language.
