McPhail, David. The Teddy Bear.  New York: Henry Holt and Company, LLC., 2002. $15.95. ISBN 0-8050-6414-1. 29 pp.

The Teddy Bear is based on compassion.   A boy and his teddy bear were never separated-until one day when the teddy bear was left behind.   The lost teddy bear finds himself cold and afraid and in the trash.   A homeless man discovers the teddy bear and they soon become companions and best friends.   Time passes.   Then one day the little boy sees his teddy bear sitting on a park bench; he runs up and hugs his teddy bear.   Turning around and walking out of the park the boy hears the old man crying.   It doesn't take long for the boy to realize what he has got to do.   The illustrations wonderfully depict the friendship between a teddy bear and his companions.   This picture book contains both a touching story and artful imaging.
