Alison Lester. Illustrated by Alison Lester. Alice and Aldo. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1998. 32 pp. $15.00 hardcover. ISBN 0395870925

Lester's picture book is about the alphabet. There are numerous illustrations to help children identify objects that begin with each letter of the alphabet. For instance, on the page dealing with the letter 'c' there are illustrations of a camera, cactus, camel, and others. Those pictures surround inner-situational scenes, which are the central focus of each page. Lester does a good job of using alliteration, which children should really enjoy. This book should make learning the alphabet fun for its young readers.

Recommended reading level: Age 4-7
