Kranking, Kathleen W. The Ocean Is.

The photographs by Norbert Wu make this book a treat. There are underwater images of sea lions, coral, schools of fish, and more. The text follows each photograph, with a simple repeated format that is excellent for reading aloud. Kranking uses figurative language to describe the many ocean scenes, leading off with the phrase, "The Ocean is."

The book has many applications for the classroom; students can brainstorm their own descriptors for the ocean scenes. Or, it can simply bring enjoyment for young admirers of the sea.

Recommended.
