Kirk, Daniel. Jack and Jill. New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 2003. $15.99. ISBN 0-399-23553-1. 30 pp.

Jack and Jill are two ordinary children with a broken TV and a pet piranha named Spike, who likes to drink up all the water in his tank.   When asked by their mother to fetch a pail of water to fill Spike's tank, Jack and Jill grab a pail only to find that the faucet is broken.   So they head up to the well on the hill to fill their pail with water only to discover that a crocodile lives in the well and won't give Jack or Jill any water.   But Jack and Jill refuse to give up; they want to save their poor fish.   In a bargain, they get the crocodile a ham and in return receive a wish. So David Kirk's story goes on that Jack and Jill eventually end up saving their fish and breaking the spell that their father was under.   David Kirk does an excellent job of bringing the pages to life with bright bold colors and familiar details. Jack and Jill is a very cute rendition of the old nursery rhyme.
