Cabrera, Jane. The Lonesome Polar Bear. New York: Random House, 2002. $13.95. ISBN 0-375-82410-3.

Cabrera writes a cute little story about a lonely polar bear that wishes for a real friend to play with. The story begins with the polar bears friendship with a cloud. The little polar bear tells the cloud his wish for a friend and the snow cloud attempts to make some friends out of snow. But this never seems to work for the snow friends can't run nor play and melt the next day. When the polar bear is just about to give up hope, he discovers a friend and becomes very happy.

The story does not contain much in terms of plot. It is basic reading yet Cabrera does do an excellent job illustrating her story. Big fun images that a toddler would love to look at again and again.
