Bronson, Linda. The Circus Alphabet. New York: Henry Holt, 2001. ISBN 0-8050-6294-7. $15.95.

The art in this colorful book is delightful; it's actually 3-dimensional. Bronson builds her illustrations using clay, wallpaper fabric, cottonballs, shiny fabrics, and tassels. She adds paint and a fine design sense to create highly imaginative circus pictures. The text is a whimsical sentence for each letter; it's the illustration that sets the picturebook apart.
