Current Students in the MA Specialization in Children's Literature:

  • By the time the Children's Literature Circle newsletter went to press, we had learned of eight (!) past or present graduate students who have been invited to present papers this coming June at the Children's Literature Association conference in Manhattan Beach, California, June 2006: Kassandra Clark, Chandra Howard, Kimberly Kennelly, Lance Roberts, Denise Schiller, Marie Soriano, Joseph Weber , and Martin Woodside.   • Peter Lederer, M.A. in English, is pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Iceland. (posted 1/2006)
  • Congratulations to new YA author Matt de la Pena, an MFA graduate in Fiction from SDSU. His first novel is Ball Don't Lie, published by Delacorte. It's receiving rave reviews. (posted 12/2005)
  • Suzanne Phillips, 1999 M.F.A., SDSU English, recently sealed a publishing deal on her Young Adult novel Chloe Doe. The book will be published by Little, Brown and Co. in the USA and by Macmillan in the U.K. in spring 2007. (posted 1/2006)
  • Former MA student (thesis in Children's Literature), 306W instructor, and now Ed.D. Cynthia McDaniel started a tenure-track teaching position this year at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA. (posted 11/2005)
