Phillip Serrato specializes in Chicano/a children's and adolescent literature. He has published essays on Latino professional wrestlers, the Personal Memoirs of Juan Seguín, and the history of Chicano/a children's literature, as well as a co-authored article on the illustrated books of Gloria Anzaldúa. In 2006, his essay "Adventures in Multiculturalism: Latino Identity vis-à-vis Dora the Explorer and Dragon Tales " is scheduled to be published. His present research and teaching revolve around issues of race, gender (masculinity in particular), and sexuality in literature for children and adolescents.
