Toni Rowden, Lecturer (retired 2005)
M.F.A.

I arrived at teaching children's literature by a curious path. Initially, I began my career as a registered nurse which was followed by raising five children. At an intense point of sibling bickering, whining, and fighting, I decided to return to college for a higher degree in nursing. However, my path diverged into English Literature at San Diego State University where I received my degrees in English Literature. For approximately the last twelve years, I have been involved with teaching English 306A and English 306W: the survey courses for children's literature and writing about literature. What a lucky woman I am--each day I wake up, and I have the opportunity to enjoy, to discuss, and to consider children's literature with future teachers. Well, there I am.
