Elements of Statistical Computing by Ronald Thisted,
Stat 671 class note will be ready to xerox (about 150 pages).

Prerequisite:
Stat 551B or 670B or by an approval of the instructor.

Computing:
Statistical softwares SAS and S-Plus will be used in this class. No prerequisite for the statistical softwares are needed. Commands needed for this class will be taught in class in great detail and the instructions will be posted on my website.

Grades will be based on the following scale:

Attendance and class participation will be used to help decide borderline grades.

Project:
  1. Projects will be assigned regularly through my homepage, and will be due a week from the next class day (Ex. If assigned on Tuesday, it will be due a week from Thursday). Projects are due at the beginning of class on the assigned due date. NO late projects will be accepted. If you find you can not be in class the day an assignment is due, please be sure it is in my departmental mailbox by the time class begins on that day. Late project assignments will NOT be accepted.
  2. All project assignments must be written on standard paper or computer paper and stapled together.
Exams:
There will be one mid-term exam, one project, and one final exam. You are expected to prepare a 15-20 minutes presentation for your project. The mid-term exam will be held on Thursday, 10/19 (tentative date), 6:30-8:30 P.M.. The project will be due on Thursday, December 7.

The final exam will be on the week of May 9.

Missed exams:
Make-up of missed exams will be allowed only as a result of a University-excused absence.
