Freund and Wilson, Statistical Methods (revised edition)

Prerequisite:
High school algebra, junior standing or higher. It should be emphasized that this course will cover a great deal of material at a rapid pace. Students who have had difficulty in previous quantitative courses, or who have not had a quantitative course in several semesters, may find that this course requires a considerable amount of time and effort, and should plan accordingly.

Computing:
Statistical software Minitab will be used in this class. No prerequisite needed. You can use university facilities or buy your own student version of Minitab from the bookstore. Commands needed for this class will be taught in class and the instruction will be posted on my website to help you.

Grading:

Grades will be based on the following scale:

Attendance and class participation will be used to help decide borderline grades.

Homework:
  1. Homework (most will be on the computer) will be assigned once a week (Tuesday) through my homepage, and will be due a week from Thursday. Homeworks are due at the beginning of class on the assigned due date. NO late homeworks will be accepted. If you find you can not be in class the day an assignment is due, please be sure it is in my departmental mailbox by the time class begins on that day. Late homework assignments will NOT be accepted.
  2. All homework assignments must be written on standard paper or computer paper and stapled together.
  3. One homework grade will be dropped. (This is intended to cover unforeseen emergencies.)
Exams:
There will be two mid-term exams, one mini project, and one final exam. The mid-term exam will be held on Thursday, 10/07 and Thursday, 11/18 (tentative date), 6:30-8:30 P.M.. The mini project will be due on Thursday, December 9.

The final exam will be on the week of May 11.
