SUMMER PROGRAM IN PARIS, FRANCE

May 22 - June 4, 2011

MBA Institute - Paris International Business School

Summer 2011

FACULTY LEADER

Dr. Martina Musteen will be leading the program to Paris, France. Dr. Musteen have played an important role in internationalization of the curriculum by developing both undergraduate and graduate course in International Entrepreneurship.  She has taught in Italy and Taiwan and have attended conferences and workshops in a number of countries.  In the summer of 2010, one of her research papers was nominated for the Best paper at the International Business Academy conference in Rio De Janeiro.  Dr. Musteen has won numerous teaching awards (e.g., the national Olympus Emerging Educator Award  in 2008; the SDSU College of Business Administration Faculty Recognition Award in Teaching  in 2009, and the SDSU Senate Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010).

She is committed to student learning about international business through both theoretical and applied methods.

THE PROGRAM

INFORMATION MEETINGS:

ELIGIBILITY

  • Undergraduate students for all business majors and minors
  • Have completed MGT 350, MKTG 370, FIN 323, and either IDS 301 or IDS 302
  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Officially matriculated at SDSU

CREDITS

This course will award academic credit for MGT 405: International Business Strategy and Integration in the Context of European Union.

COST: The cost will be determined by the number of participants as stated below 

  • 20 students: €I,640 or about US$2,115
  • 15 students: €1,840 Euros or about US$2,374  
  • 10 students: €2,180 Euros or about US$2, 810


The package includes:  
- Hotel accommodations in double occupancy - single rooms are available for an extra charge
- Breakfast every day
- Wine tour and tasting
- City tours
- Orientation
- Educational programming

The package DOES NOT INCLUDE:
- Tuition and $230/unit. This is a three unit course, therefore, the cost of the tuition will be $690  
- Air transportation to France (about $1,400)
- Travel and health insurance (about $300)

SUMMER PROGRAM IN ROME, ITALY

May 19 - June 24, 2011

FACULTY LEADER

Dr. Kathleen Krentler will be leading the program to Rome, Italy. Dr. Krentler has been an SDSU marketing professor since 1981 and was recently awarded the 2009 College of Business Administration’s Outstanding Faculty Contributor. In addition to her teaching, Dr. Krentler is the CBA’s Director of Assessment, Director of Undergraduate Programs, and co-founder of the collaborative marketing communications program with the University of Malta. Additional awards earned include:

  • Named 2006’s “Most Influential Professor” by top CBA undergraduate
  • President of the Academy of Marketing Science – 1998-2000
  • Honored with Faculty Recognition Award – 1999
  • Awarded Distinguished Fellow by the Academy of Marketing Science – 1996

THE PROGRAM

Study Abroad at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy during the summer and take the following courses:

  • Marketing 370 taught by SDSU Professor Krentler (prerequisite: Approved upper division business major, business minor, or another major approved by the CBA)
  • Plus, 3 units in Business, Communication, or General Education taught by John Cabot Faculty
  • Undergraduate course articulation (offered in English)

INFORMATION MEETINGS:

ELIGIBILITY

  • Undergraduate students from all majors
  • Minimum of 2.67 GPA
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Officially matriculated at SDSU

COST

Program Fee: $4986

This fee includes:  

  • Accommodations in a shared Roman apartment
  • 6 units of coursework
  • Orientation
  • Welcome barbeque
  • Cultural programs such as wine-tasting seminars and gourmet cooking classes
  • Summer Sports Program with classes offered in belly-dancing, yoga, sailing and free access to neighborhood gyms and swimming pool

This fee DOES NOT INCLUDE:

  • Round-trip air transportation to Italy
  • Travel and health insurance
  • Optional JCU Meal Plan

Payment Information:

  • Early Spring semester: $500 non-refundable tuition deposit and $1000 housing deposit payable to JCU.
  • Mid-Spring semester: $930 SDSU fee payable to SDSU's College of Extended Studies.
  • April 15: $2556 - remaining tuition and fees paid to JCU.

Students will pay JCU directly via their online payment system or by mailing a personal check or cashiers check.

SUMMER PROGRAM IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA AND SANTIAGO CHILE

July 18 -August 5th, 2011

Doing Business in Latin America

Summer 2011

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE


The objectives of this program are (1) to provide a general conceptual understanding of the international marketing environment in Argentina and Chile and (2) using on-site visits, match the theory and the practice of international business in Argentina and Chile. 

FACULTY LEADER

Dr.  Massoud Saghafi is a professor of international marketing at San Diego State University.  Since joining SDSU in 1997, he has played an important role in internationalization of the curriculum in the College of Business and developing student exchange relationships between SDSU and foreign universities.  Dr. Saghafi has taught in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy as well as Albania and China (including Taiwan) and has attended conferences and workshops in many countries in all five continents.  Dr. Saghafi has won the most influential professor award several times during his tenure at SDSU including in 2007 and 2009.  Dr. Saghafi is committed to student learning through both theoretical and applied methods and has been active in field trips with students to the Mexican maquiladora companies including Sony, Sharp and Hyundai.  Dr. Saghafi has published in many leading international business periodicals and is highly active in developing original cases for class discussion.

This course will award academic credit for MKT 475: Marketing Strategy in Latin America Please note that this course has been approved to fulfill major electives for the following business specializations: MANAGEMENT, ENTREPRENUERSHIP, MARKETING AND IMC

  • Presentation by Frigorífico Amancay, the leading company in the Argentina beef industry
  • Presentation by Telefónica, the most important Hispanic telecommunications company in the Argentine region
  • Tour to Terminal Zárate (Buenos Aires Port) one of the largest industrial ports in Argentina, located in Zárate

COST

The cost of the program will be approximately $4,059 (cost will be determined by the number of participants)
Land Package:  US$2,864 per student (double occupancy)
Single room supplement Fee:  US$1,099
Airfare between Santiago and Buenos Aires: US$275 per student
Total Land Package   US$3,139 per student
Plus the cost of tuition via Extended Studies:
Tuition: $230/unit. This is a four unit course, therefore, the cost of the tuition will be $920
