Brian's Guide to Yonsei Univeristy in Korea

Which program did you attend?
I attended the Global Village program and Yonsei University in South Korea

Were there different choices of where to Brian and friendlive? Which do you recommend?
There was no option.

How close to school are the different accommodations?
They are on campus dorms.

Did you have cooking facilities in you place of residence? Is there a cafeteria nearby?
There was a fridge on our floor and there was a small kitchenette in the common room.  The cafeteria was close as well.

Korean buildingDo you need to purchase a monthly travel card for city transportation?
I bought a card for the subway system in Seoul but it isnt needed.

Would you recommend getting a cell phone there?
They provided us with one, but we had to pay the bill for useage.

What was internet availability like on campus? At your residence?
We had internet in the dorm, it was often slow.  There wasnt much wireless available.

If you don’t bring a laptop are there computer labs on campus? Internet cafes nearby?
There are computer labs in the dorm and on campus.  I never used them though because I had a laptop.

Do you need to set up a bank account there? If so, what are the steps involved for doing so?
Yes, I did.  We set it up during orientation.

Where did you do laundry? What was the cost?
There's a laundry service on campus.  That was all I used.  It costs 1000 won per kilogram.

Did you go on any trips? Where?
I went to Seoul, Busan, Jeju, and Andong on my own.  And we took many trips as a group with the coordinator.

What kind of accommodations did you use templewhile traveling (hostels, hotels etc)? Any you recommend or any to avoid?
We mostly stayed in so called "love motels"

What were your favorite bars/pubs/nightclubs? Where were they?
Not sure what the name was exactly, but we called it the "makoli place" because they served makoli.

 

Favorite places to eat
The cafeteria lol… also Mexican restaurants in Seoul after I got sick of Korean food.

Any particular travel books you recommend?
A common phrasebook is useful if you’re going around alone

Were your classes/tests hard?
Just my finance class
