The Real Estate Society of SDSU

The Real Estate Society (RES) of SDSU is a thriving organization co-founded in 2005 by two business students, Pat Geary and Joe Anderson. The two seniors started the first real estate-focused organization on campus which follows a mission statement encouraging two main objectives: Providing information and guidance to students about the various career opportunities in the real estate field; and assisting students with skill assessment and development training to provide its members with appropriate job placement.
Through paid membership and sponsorship by several reputable real estate companies, students in this organization participate in bi-weekly meetings, workshops, seminars, case studies, and other professional business events that give members a chance to gain exposure to the many career opportunities available. After Geary and Anderson graduated in spring of 2006, Kelsey Stuart was appointed President of the RES when there were only a dozen members. Today, the organization has 73 active members and is overseen by a group of 10 students that form the Board of Directors.
The RES holds four case studies and hosts 12 speaker presentations throughout the year in an effort to teach students the various and dynamic opportunities that the real estate industry offers. Case studies in 2007-2008 included projects ranging from the La Jolla Commons development project to the construction of Intuit’s new campus in Carmel Valley.
In addition, Real Estate Society held several programs this year, including the “Mock Interview Workshop,” where several real estate professionals met with members to evaluate their interviewing skills. Members had their resumes reviewed by SDSU’s Career Services, received instant feedback on their mock interviews, and received interviewing tips designed to increase their chances of landing a job.
Many of the RES members have attained scholarships and internships and jobs through their affiliation with RES. Members of RES have been hired by organizations including Lee and Associates, Atlas REO Services, and the San Diego County’s Tax and Treasurer’s office.
