SAN DIEGO, Tuesday, November 1, 2005 – The San Diego Chapter of Certified Commercial Investment Members (CCIM) and San Diego State University’s Real Estate and Land Use Institute (REULI) will present “Commercial and Investment Real Estate Risk Analysis” on November 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The seminar will be held on the SDSU campus. Cost is $95 per person which includes lunch. Discounted rates are available to members of CCIM, MAI, CRA San Diego and SDCAA. To register, email ccimsd@san.rr.com.

Real estate investment occurs in a dynamic environment. Risk analysis may be used to describe its complex nature. The seminar will cover the aspects of probability and risk measures using real estate data. This is an introductory course that teaches the investor or the broker about quantitative measures of risk analysis.

Roger J. Brown, a CCIM member and the RELUI Director of Research who will conduct the seminar, said, “Real estate risk models are misunderstood and underused. With data now plentiful we have an opportunity to increase understanding about the concept of risk in real estate investing.”

San Diego State University’s real estate program has been educating students for more than 40 years. It is Southern California’s only comprehensive undergraduate real estate degree program. San Diego real estate companies, like the Corky McMillin Cos., Grubb& Ellis/BRE Commercial and Barratt American, have pledged endowment gifts totaling $1.7 million to enhance the real estate program. The vision is to create a “ready-day-one” program for students who aspire to become leaders within the industry. This includes: 1) restructures curriculum to prepare students for today’s and tomorrow’s employment opportunities; and 2) an expanded research component that analyzes emerging trends and provides thoughtful leadership on real estate matters of community importance.

The San Diego CCIM Chapter serves as a focal point where members exchange ideas, property information and experience, and help each other to fulfill their clients' real estate objectives. CCIM designees are available in each commercial and investment discipline including finance, brokerage, property management, asset management, development, consulting and appraisal.

The Real Estate and Land Use Institute (RELUI) is a CSU system-wide institution that promotes research and professional education related to land use, investment and development.
