green groupSAN DIEGO (February 13, 2008) – The College of Business Administration at San Diego State University (SDSU) today announced that a group of 10 undergraduate students will participate in a national advertising campaign competition that encourages the use of public transportation among people ages 18 – 25.

The “Green Means Go” program is being mounted on behalf of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), a non-profit organization that provides outreach for public transportation agencies and their vendors. The campaign has been endorsed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The students are undertaking this project as part of their Integrated Marketing Communications course and are under the direction of SDSU marketing professor, Dr. Mickey Belch. As per the program, these students will act as an advertising agency to develop and deliver a comprehensive integrated marketing communications plan for the APTA.

Each team is given a fictional budget of $500,000 and the plan must include: 1. Three radio scripts of various lengths; 2. Story board for one 30-second television commercial; 3. Video to be posted online; 4. Print ads; 5. Public relations strategy outline; 6. Branding samples.

The students first would present their plan to an APTA representative in San Diego on May 7 and, if chosen to move on, will travel to Washington, D.C. to provide a second presentation to senior management of APTA. The winner of the campaign will be chosen by APTA and EdVenture Partner staffs and will be announced near the end of May.

The project is being administered by EdVenture Partners, an organization that provides innovative industry-education partnerships between students, educators and major organizations.
