San Diego Padres Executive to Teach SDSU Sports Business MBA CoursePadres/SDSU unique partnership provides distinctive learning opportunities for students SAN DIEGO (August 13, 2008) – The San Diego Padres and College of Business Administration at San Diego State University (SDSU) announced today that Padre’s Executive Vice President and PETCO Park’s General Manager, Richard Andersen, will teach the SDSU Sports Business Management MBA program’s Operations Management (BA662) course to be taught the fall 2008 semester. The placement of Andersen as a course instructor is in conjunction with the Padres/SDSU partnership formed at the inception of SDSU’s Sports Business Management Program in 2004. The partnership between the Padres and SDSU is one of the only affiliations of its type between a major league sports franchise and a major university in the United States. It is designed to provide MBA students with unparalleled access to executives and staffers involved in the day-to-day operations of a professional sports team. “It is a renowned program and I am honored and thrilled with the prospect of becoming part of the faculty,” said Andersen. “The Padres value deeply their relationship with SDSU. It’s a true win-win situation – one that produces professionals that understand the ever-changing dynamics of the sports business world, while the Padres gain by having access to a collection of great minds eager to make their mark in this field.” “SDSU is one of the few sports business MBA programs that have the luxury of having a real sports program executive – a guy that’s in the trenches everyday – teach students firsthand about sports business operations and what goes on behind the scenes,” said Scott Minto, director of SDSU’s Sports Business MBA program. “This semester, our students will work on a collective bargaining project; gain insight on revenue generation; determine the impact of technology, learn the value of enriching the customer experience; and, lastly, take a field trip to PETCO Park to see how all the elements are put into a real-world experience. The addition of Richard’s expertise and the Padres’ full-fledged participation in this partnership is a key element in the overwhelming success of this program.” |
