In the spring of 2009, five SDSU M.B.A. students (B.A. 795) worked with the SDSU Veterans Center to determine how the university could better serve military veterans and their dependents. They did so by creating a detailed survey which was sent to more than 300 student veterans. One of the questions asked the veterans if they would be interested in on-campus housing – specifically, if they would be receptive to apartment- or Greek-style housing. Over 100 students surveyed – close to 30 percent – said they would be interested in Greek-style housing. “The survey gave us the data to confirm what we suspected,” said Nathaniel Donnelly, Marine Corps vet and the center’s assistant veterans coordinator. “The survey gave us the hard data we needed to move forward with a plan.” The university began leasing a structure that formerly housed the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and four Student Veteran Organization students moved in on August 1, 2009. The facility currently houses ten SDSU student veterans. For more information, contact Nathaniel Donnelly at 619-594-2577.
