SDSU international business M.B.A. candidate, Sean Rae, died tragically on August 2, 2009. Early that morning, Rae and two friends were jumping off the Bahia Belle paddlewheel boat in Mission Bay off the coast of San Diego. A rescue effort was launched as the friends became alarmed when he did not come to the surface of the water. His body was located several hours later. Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Rae had completed all of the course work for his M.B.A. with the exception of one course, which he planned to take in during the Fall Semester, 2009. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of North Carolina – Wilmington and was known to be a world traveler. His professors and the staff that knew him at SDSU’s College of Business Administration described him as “a great guy” and “a brilliant student – among the very best”. SDSU presented Rae’s family with his M.B.A. degree posthumously. Rae was 28 years old and living in La Jolla, California at the time of his death. Survivors include his fiancé, and his mother, father, step-mother, brother, sister-in-law and his nephew. A celebration of his life was held in his hometown of Virginia Beach on August 15, 2009.
