2009 Student Research Symposium
CBA Award Winners
On February 28, 2009 three business students were named as winners in SDSU’s annual Student Research Symposium (SRS) award ceremony. SRS provides a forum for SDSU students to present their original research, scholarship, or creative activities through poster and oral presentations.
A total of 10 President's Awards ($500) and 14 Dean's Awards ($250 - two from each College) were awarded to students giving oral presentations.. The President's Award winners will represent SDSU at the annual CSU Research Competition at California State University, Los Angeles on May 1-2, 2009.
IDS professor, Dr. Murray Jennex, served as a judge for the event and CBA faculty members Dr. Damon Fleming (accountancy), Bill Sannwald (management), and Bernhard Schroeder (EMC) served as student advisors.
Howard Tu
Senior Howard Tu (integrated marketing communications) was named as a President’s Award winner for his founding and management of the ONE-DAY Job Shadow program. The ONE-DAY Job Shadow program matches pre-business or undeclared students with organizations and professionals already working in the student’s area of interest.
Students visit organizations enrolled in the program and observe their employees on the job for one day. This provides the student with a glimpse of the career they plan to pursue and helps them determine if they are on the right educational path.
Gagandeep Singh
Accounting senior Gagandeep Singh’s research, Sustaining the Integrity of M&A Due Diligence: An Examination of the Fair Value Environment, won one of two the Dean’s Awards given to business students. The research examines how due diligence can be enhanced by studying settings where the perception of fair value may be potentially misrepresented. Due diligence is defined as investigative research for assessing the price of a company by performing audits in various corporate segments, such as the financial, legal, and managerial environment.
David Krisch
David Krisch is one of four SDSU MBA students who founded SideKix. SideKix produces a women’s shoe accessory kit that features a spare pair of women's flats in a small purse. The purse is large enough to hold identification, money, phone, and/or a small camera. When the flats are in use, the purse converts to a small tote bag that holds the woman’s high heels.
Krisch’s presentation on SideKix was awarded the second of the Dean’s Awards
