Dr. Martha Doran (accountancy):  Coordinated the American Accounting Association’s Annual Meeting of the Western Region from April 23 -25 at the Doubletree Hotel San Diego – Mission Valley. Other CBA participants in the meeting included Dr. Gail Naughton (dean); Dr. Sharon Lightner (The William E. Cole Director of the Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy); accountancy professors, Drs. David DeBoskey, Jim Williamson, Damon Fleming, Norbert Tschakert, Leon Chan, Jamie Chang, Nathan Oestreich, Gene Whilttenburg and Steven Gill; and IDS professors, Drs. Gretchen Vik and Helen Anderson-Cruz.

Dr. Lori Ryan (management):  A paper titled “The Ethics of Corporate Governance Ratings:  Are Institutional Investors Complicit?” has been accepted for presentation at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management, Chicago, Illinois, August 7 – 11, 2009.

Dr. Lori Ryan (management):  Will serve on a panel of a refereed symposium titled “Shareholder Activism:  How Do Firms Respond?” at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management, Chicago, Illinois, August 7 – 11, 2009.

Dr. Lori Ryan (management):  Will deliver a presentation with A. Buchholtz titled “Corporate Governance” during the Focusing on Fields plenary session  and will co-chair the Corporate Governance roundtable of the Social Issues in Management division at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management, Chicago, Illinois, August 7 – 11, 2009.

Dr. Lori Ryan (management):  A paper titled “Rand” Hero or Villain in the Classroom” has been accepted for presentation at the International Association for Business and Society, Aspen, Colorado, June 18 – 21, 2009.

Dr. Lori Ryan (management):  Will serve on a refereed symposium panel titled “Corporate Governance Research V” at the International Association for Business and Society, Aspen, Colorado, June 18 – 21, 2009.

Dr. Gail Naughton (dean):  Presided over a workshop with R. Sorenson where over 100 business school deans participated in a discussion on the current industry and management challenges facing business schools at the AACSB Deans’ Conference, Orlando, Florida, February  4 – 6, 2009.

Scott Tinley (Sports Business MBA program): Coordinating the 2009 IART Conference May 29 -31, 2009 at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego, California. The conference will serve as a forum for speakers to present their findings and experiences with athlete retirement and the transition process.

Drs. Congcong Zheng and John Francis (management): A paper with A. Mukherji titled “Isomorphism at Multiple Levels:  An Institutional Perspective of Foreign Market Entry” was accepted for publication in Management International Review.
