SDSU Accounting Students Lobby Sacramento

SDSU accounting students, Wes Martin, Ryan Rios, Laurie Schrimpf and Jessica Minick, visited Sacramento in January to participate in the “CPA Day at the Capitol” event. The students were there to lobby the state legislature to vote in favor of Senate Bill 691 which would increase the number of classroom hours needed for CPAs to qualify for a state license from 120 to 150.

The issue at stake lies in the fact that 46 other states have already adopted the 150 hour limit as a standard, making it impossible for California CPAs to benefit from reciprocity across state lines.

The trip, funded by CalCPA, also led the students to visit with local state senators and members of the state assembly to discuss the issue in March. If passed, the law would take effect January 1, 2012.
