SDSU Finance Major and Compact Scholar, Lauren Zimmerman

Finance senior, Lauren Zimmermann, will be one of the first graduates from SDSU’s Compact Scholars Program (CSP).

CSP offers students enrolled in the Sweetwater Union High School District grades 7 – 9 guaranteed entrance into SDSU provided they maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, have met minimum test scores and have successfully completed CSU high school course requirements.

Zimmermann, who will complete her bachelor’s degree in three years, knew she wanted to earn a business degree and was also accepted to the University of San Diego. But since she is paying for her education out of her own pocket, Zimmermann chose SDSU due to its affordability.

After graduation, Zimmermann plans to spend the summer studying Spanish in Spain and traveling around Europe. Upon her return, she plans on substitute teaching until she can find full-time employment in the finance field. The following year, she hopes to attend USD and earn a joint JD/MBA degree.

As she readies herself for graduation, Zimmermann reflects that her accelerated program did not allow her “to fully enjoy college life”, however, she will leave SDSU with good memories of two of her finance professors, Frank Ryan and Dr. Pieter Vandenberg. She said that it was Ryan and Vandenberg who “deserve the most credit for my education at San Diego State. Both seem to truly care about the students learning and do a wonderful job at helping us apply our knowledge.”
