Four-person teams of MBA students representing nine universities gathered at PETCO Park in San Diego for the fourth annual International Sports Business MBA Case Competition. Teams from SDSU’s Sports Business MBA program competed against peers from Columbia, Georgetown, NYU, Oxford, UC-Berkeley, UCLA, USC and University of Pennsylvania (Wharton). This year, students were asked to work with non-profit organization, Malaria No More, to create a marketing communications plan to generate awareness of the group’s campaign to eradicate malaria during the 2010 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa. Each team was presented with the case and given 24 hours to develop a comprehensive communications strategy. The next day, they presented their strategies to a panel of seven judges from various sports, media and marketing organizations. At the end of the day, Colombia University was declared the winner and Oxford University took home second place. |
