EMC’s QUALCOMM Social Entrepreneurship Internship Program
For the past nine years, SDSU’s Entrepreneurial Management Center (EMC) has teamed with QUALCOMM Inc. to form the QUALCOMM EMC Social Entrepreneur internship program. The program matches SDSU MBA and MSBA students with non-profit organizations in order to work with the organizations’ senior management team with the goal of enhancing the organizations’ performance and to help them achieve objectives through entrepreneurial initiatives.
Specifically, the students work closely with the organization, QUALCOMM mentors and SDSU faculty advisors on strategic and entrepreneurially-driven projects involving operations, finance and management, as well as business development research and marketing.
When contacted regarding the outcome of their work with the students, the non-profits reported significant results. For example:
-
The Alternative Healing Network Inc. used a business plan completed by one of the students to obtain a $50,000 loan.
-
On the advice of another student, 2-1-1 San Diego outsourced their weekend call volume to their center in San Bernardino, saving the organization approximately $66,000 per year.
-
The National City Public Library utilized a capital campaign developed by an SDSU MBA student which resulted in over $1.2 million in donations to purchase books, periodicals, technical resources and artwork for their new library building.
