James Sweeney, ’69 management, chairman and chief executive of CardioNet, was named Life Sciences Entrepreneur of the Year at Ernst & Young's annual Entrepreneur of the Year awards banquet. Sweeney was credited with developing a wireless cardiac monitoring system that identified serious arrhythmias that went undetected with other systems. Seven local entrepreneurs were honored at the event held in La Jolla in June.

WiredRed Software has appointed Steven Peltier ’77 accounting, as chief executive officer. Formerly the CEO of ICS/Advent, Peltier brings more than 20 years of senior-level executive management experience, during which time he successfully led sales channel, business development, and company expansion efforts on a global scale. Peltier was also CFO of the Sickels Group, a diversified real estate development company headquartered in San Diego.

Kyphon Inc. announced that Arthur T. Taylor, ’80 finance, has joined the company as vice president and CFO. He has more than 20 years of senior financial management experience in publicly-traded medical device, pharmaceutical and high tech companies. Most recently, he served as senior vice president, CFO at Santa Clara-based Terayon Communication Systems, Inc. Taylor is a Certified Management Accountant. Kyphon develops and markets medical devices designed to restore spinal function using minimally invasive technology.

Hadi Reza, ’89 information systems, recently joined the Multifamily Data Warehouse group of Fannie Mae, the nation’s largest source of mortgage funding, and manages a team of financial analysts. Hadi is married to Ambreen Rizvi, a financial analyst at Fannie Mae, and lives in northern Viriginia with their six-year-old daughter.

CryoCor, Inc., a development stage medical technology company, has named Gregory J. Tibbitts, ’93 MBA, as vice president finance and CFO. He has over 15 years of financial, accounting and administrative management experience at both large and small high-growth technology companies. He was the chief financial officer at Elitra Pharmaceuticals, a San Diego-based biotechnology company, and was responsible for financing and strategic transactions. Prior to Elitra, he was a senior manager at Ernst & Young LLP, specializing in the biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceutical industries.

Brent Evans, ’93 international business, was recently promoted to assistant vice president in the Commercial IT & eCommerce Banking Division at Wachovia. He works as a business analyst on a contact management software application used by relationship managers throughout the corporation.

Melissa Davis, ’02 management, was hired by Hauler Racks last February as East Coast Regional Marketing Director. She is charged with all of the accounts in the eastern half of the country and has been working to build and maintain the dealer network. Hauler Racks manufactures aluminum utility racks for trucks, vans and SUVs.

David Marchesani, MSBA ’04, is an associate with Marsh Kroll Risk Management Service, where he does business valuations. On the side, he is in the editing stage of a feature-length film, which he started as a student, about college life. His next project will be a documentary on entrepreneurship in San Diego.
