Sports Business Management MBA Program Hosts Information
Session Sept. 18
Applications are now being accepted for the MBA program
in Sports Business Management, offered in conjunction with the San
Diego Padres Baseball Club and partnered with other major sports
organizations in the San Diego area.
An information session will be held Saturday, Sept.
18 on campus from 3 to 6 p.m. Applicants and prospective applicants
are invited to tour the SDSU campus and facilities, hear details
about the curriculum and course delivery schedule, meet some of
the key faculty and administrators, and get answers to their questions
about the program.
The inaugural class begins in January 2005. This intensive
full-time program (course load about 14-15 hours per week, including
summer) will include three semesters of courses plus a full-time
internship for four to six months. The curriculum will include MBA
core courses as well as elective and theme courses essential to
the sports business management profession. Tuition will be $25,000
for the 18-month program, which includes materials, books and orientation.
Our graduates will not only be well-versed
in the high profile aspects of running a sports organization, such
as negotiating with players and agents, but in the day to day operations,
including facilities management, human resources, sports law, and
marketing and customer service, said College of Business Professor
Jim Lackritz, the faculty coordinator for the sports management
program and associate dean of the graduate division at SDSU.
A group of professionals from sports organizations and businesses
serves on an advisory
board to help guide the programs development.
