Clickers Offer Instant Student Feedback
SDSU faculty are using “clicker” technology in greater numbers on the SDSU campus. Finance professor, Frank Ryan, and IDS professor, Marie Flatley are currently using them in their finance 325 class and IDS 290 and 396W courses respectively.
Both professors have noted that students are pleased with the instant feedback during the question and answer period of their classes and the professors have been pleased with the increased student participation during their sessions.
Flatley noted that students that are shy or are not fluent in spoken English are more comfortable participating with the clickers. Ryan said that his use of the clickers allowed him to instantly gauge his class’ understanding of in-class questions and immediately reallocate classroom time to its best use.
The clickers have been widely used throughout the SDSU campus and are available at the SDSU bookstore from anywhere from about $40 - $50, with the service ranging from $18 to $37 depending on the length of use.
